Help me out 5.9 Auto trans owners please
I am on the cusp of buying a 2006 5.9 CTD 2500
It has 97000 miles on it.
Only diesel experience is with a 7.3 Ford and a diesel (Volvo) powered boat.
The trans going bang concerns me a little bit.
I don't know if this truck has been used for towing or not.
It's on a new car dealer's lot.......but not a Dodge dealer.
Maintenance records do not mention anything about a trans service.
At close to 100K miles, should I be concerned about issues?
Price is good.....trade in value for my F-150 is good.
The F-150 with a 5.0 is weak, pulling any kind of grade with my travel trailer of 5500#

take it on a drive, make sure it doesn't slip between gears, yes the 48RE can and should be adjusted. As long as you can feed it full throttle at highway speeds without the tach jumping up more than it should with normal speed increase your probably ok. You will need a good torque converter upgrade at the least.
