Exclamation Help? Loud Screeching when starting.

We have an 07 3500 5.9. Everyone once in a while you get a loud Screeching when you start it up. We have changed the starter three times. We checked all the pullys.... We changed the clutch. What can it be? It is making me crazy..lol
It only does this when starting then goes away.

Not exactly sure about your problem but the screeching would lead me to believe it could be a belt problem. Keep us posted.

I had the same type of issue... turned out to be the belt tension pulley.

did you properly service the compressor with oil? it sounds as if the system has to much oil, and is trying to lock up. you may need to vacumn and start over.

Does it do it with the AC and defroster off?

I think as an experiment I'd briefly start it (cold) with the belt off.

That would at least verify that it is something driven off the belt.

Mine does this now that I installed my SRT10 hood. It only does it when it rains though and for me it's water dripping down on the belt. Screeches for about 1-2 seconds and then it's fine...

Well I am hoping I found the problems. The starter gear on the south bend flywheel was half off. It does it with the a/c competely off.
It is an intermittent problem. It don't do it all the time. Makes no sence. WHY THE HECK would the Ring gear come off the flywheel? It isn't that old. I JB welded it on. Hope it stays.

jb weld isn't going to hold the ring gear onto the flywheel. they are either pressed onto the flywheel and or welded on. if it is a flywheel problem, contact Peter at southbend. He is a great guy.

That would be it. We starting getting the sound a while back then it got bad. I was able to get that ring on and off with a hammer.

then you need a new flywheel. the ring gear is spinning on the flywheel and there is your noise. contact Peter and let him know what is going on. jb weld is going to do nothing. the starter is going to see that and laugh. ring gears are heated up and pressed onto the flywheel and often tack welded.
