Turbo seals failed and leaking engine oil into exhaust? Overheated oil rings? How does it run in general? Need more info, miles, mods, at excels ration or idle or both ect?
White smoke is potentially a sign of injector failures. Have you noticed a decrease in fuel milage? Check your oil level and see if it has risen. Injector failures are common on these trucks, especially on the early 3rd gens.
I would think if the turbo seals were failing you would hear the turbo itself squealing. But checking the oil level will lead you in the correct direction.
Again, a little more info about the truck would help. When are you seeing the white smoke? How much smoke are we talking about? I would be cautious because if it is an injector causing your issue you have the potential to melt a piston depending on the severity of the problem. What did the other shops tell you?

no signs
thanks for your replies. no signs of oil movement up or down, no turbo noise , no notable power or mileage loss ????????????
I am getting an occasional missing sound through the exhaust, very faint.....
no mods yet....
it start with lite haze at about 170degrees and gets a little heavier at temp.

If this dark substance located on the filter is an oily sludge, it may be what is known as asphaltenes. There are products marketed to reduce the effects of this such as Fleetguards Fleet Tech Asphaltene Conditioner.
