Head R&R

Just wondering what i need to R&R the head on my 03. I was told that i need to buy a whole top end gasket kit. Like 600 bucks from cummins. I have read alot on here but cant find anything. Just a list of the gaskets i need would be awsome. I know the head gasket, injector o rings, injector brass rings, and thats all that really need to be replaced for sure. ISnt it?

Thanks for the help

You may want to pickup some copper washers for the fuel return lines at the rail and the check valve at the back of the head. Might be a idea to change the check valve at the back of the head when everything is still off (changed mine when I R&R'd the head on mine) it was around 7-10 buck range.

Head and intake plate gaskets were all I needed, if I remember correctly . Reused rocker box and valve cover gaskets.

Well finally got the head removed. As i suspected number one exhaust valve seat dropped. Luckly it did not wreck a thing other than the head. So now to find a head.

When I did mine I bought a bottoming tap to clean threads in block and used ARP's to clamp done the redone head good and tight.

You can reuse the bolts but it is good insurance to get new ones.

Well got the head to the machine shop today and its still good. the way the seat fell out it did not damage the head at all so its repairable. Should have it back in a week or so and then back in the truck.

Well my week in the machine shop turned into 7 weeks. Had to find a over sizes seat and he cleaned and inspected everything ese for me. So im reinstalling the head and i was looking for some torque specs and cant really find much on here. Can some one help me out. I found one article but it says to

a. Torque bolts to 70 N·m (52 ft. lbs.).
b. Back off 360 degrees in sequence.
c. Torque bolts to 105 N·m (77 ft. lbs.).
d. Re-check all bolts to 105 N·m (77 ft. lbs.).
e. Tighten all bolts an additional 1⁄4 turn (90°).

Now do you do this to each bolt one at a time or do you do them all one step at a time till you get to (E)? Thanks for the help.

Well i got the old beast running again. Runs better than it ever has i think. Less valve noise and way smoother. Thanks to all for the help off the forum.

It's more about heat cycles than mileage. I'd go half dozen then one complete retorque, and be on my merry way.
