The dealer and factory rep. said the same thing on mine at 75,000 miles. I fought them and told them that i maintained per factory specs. After talking to them for a couple days and asking why dodge changed they factory 2 inch filter to a 4 inch filter. There answer was they where getting dusting issues with the 2 inch. After that they agreeded to installed a new short block under warranty.

I am new to the diesels here..............Can the 2 inch be replaced with a 4 inch or does it require a different housing for the filter?

Time to lawyer up, might be cheaper than a new engine.

Another possibility is someone didn't get the airbox snapped back together properly after changing the air filter- easy to do. But then of course the inside of the intake tube would be dusty, and the turbo vanes would show abnormal amounts of wear as noted previously.

What part of the country do you live in?
I would be dissapointed not to get a warranty repair. Never read the fine print and I am out of warranty anyway, but that sounds like a cop out.

Get a second opinion!! if the turbo is ok then its most likely not from dust. could of been fuel washed out cylinders

We are having another shop inspect it. The impeller blades are a little gritty but it spins freely. There was no dirt and debris in the intake system. I am tired of fighting Chrysler on it. I can pursue the lawyer route but would have just as much money into it then if I just had it rebuilt. I am beyond frustrated....this went through the Service Contract division...not the normal warranty division. I am less than impressed with their customer relations and the handling of this case. But in the end I just need the truck back up and running for the least hassle and cash out lay. I will pay to have her fixed right but do not want the layer fees and having to pay. The way they have their warranty guidelines written leaves them SOOO many outs to not warranty the vehicle. It is very depressing these days.....the customer is guilty until proven innocent.

If the blades are gritty then it did ingest dirt. Look at having it replaced or do an upgrade.

Sometimes just a letter from an attorney will do the trick. Might be worth a try.

yes the 4" filter will fit in place of the 2" one. I'm not sure why they still sell the shorter one.
