Question Hard to steer....315s?

When my truck is not moving it is EXTREMELY difficult to turn the wheel. It's very annoying while trying to park.

Feels like I'm driving my '51 M37 which has manual steering. If the truck is moving, even the slightest, it's fine. I think it could be the PS pump, but was wondering if anyone else has experienced this?

My truck does have 315 BFGs on it but I do not believe the tires would cause this. I've had big tires on older Dodge and Chevy trucks for MANY more miles than I have on this truck and have never had an issue.

My biggest fear is that the dealer is going to point at the tires and say "not our issue, not covered under warranty, these oversized tires caused it". If they can prove it, or give me a valid argument, I will gladly pay. But I find it hard to believe that DC would spec anything in the steering system THAT close to the limit.

Thanks in advance!

I can't help with your question, but I have noticed the same thing with my truck on stock tires so I doubt if the problem is the 315's.

I think I will keep an eye on this thread to see what everyones opinion is.

Mine does it as well, but I rarely try to turn at a stop. Spent too many years manhandling a '66 Mustang to lose the habit of making sure the vehicle is in motion before turning!

NOticed you have a 6spd, tried bringing the rpm's up over a 1000, let clutch out and turning while moving.
I have the 315's and have noticed same problem on cold days...once warmed up seems to be better.

why are you trying to turn the wheel without moving...? remember how much you payed for 315's...add some life to them and treat them right by slightly rolling while turning the wheel....

I have a 2002 that has done that since new.I have had everything in the stearing system replaced and it still does it.The power stearing pump,Stearing box,all lines,All the stearing linkage.I finally just learned to deal with it.As there is nothing else to replace.

What FOXY005 said.....

Wow, I didn't think it would be a common thing. I searched the archives and didn't see any other posts, so I thought I was alone.

I always try to turn while moving, but there are times when I have to turn while stopped...especially while parking. I've grown used to it, and try to move at least a little.

I forgot about it but my son drove it last night and mentioned it. I thought I'd ask if I was the only one. And it looks like I'm not.

It's still WAY better than my '51. That thing will give you arms of steel!

my truck does the same thing, stock tires though. normally the air pressure in the tires are lower when this happens. air the tires up and it works normally. i dont know if this will work for you but it is worth a try. hope this helps

Coincidently enough, my truck went into the shop this morning for this problem. I have the 315's and a 220 pound Road Armor bumper hanging off the front of the truck. They didn't think they would find anything, but I had them check since my 36k warranty is up this week. I'm not sure what they found, but I do know that they ordered a pump and expect it in tomorrow.

I'll talk to the technician when I pick it up and find out exactly what they found and will post that along with the results. Bug me if I forget.

Don't get your undies in a bunch, no offense intended.

Maybe the towns you visit have nice big metered spaces but where I am they are made for compact cars, and you have very little room to creap back & forth.

I think B 1 POWER WAGON understood what I was talking about.

If you get out this way let me know and we can take your short bed to town and I will show you what I was talking about once you back in you have to crank the wheel to get the nose in.
