Hard starting problem on 03 5.9
Hard starting problem on 03 5.9
Ok im a die hard second gen guy but my buddy just bought an 03 cummins with the auto and it has 120k on it. He says he is having starting issues and was wondering what it could be. He said he hears the lift pump run for a minute or more when turning the key on.....where is that located on the third gen. Whats the pressure suppose to be at? Anyone's help would be appreciated.
Pull the fuel filter, drain the boil, and see if it will fill the filter bowl back up. If it does, then he probably has a bad injector not allowing enough rail pressure to build causing the hard start. Have a leakdown test done by someone, dealer can do it. If he does have this issue, pull them and send them to Don M at F1 diesel, have them rebuilt and upgraded to Flux 1's or higher depending on what he has done to the truck. New injectors from Cummins is like $600 a piece. Dealer is outragous at around $1200 a piece. Tips from Don are $1100 and change along with any where from $100 to $200 a piece (depending on what is wrong with them) to get them rebuilt. Call Midatlantic diesel or TRE diesel. They can give you a ball park better than I can.
