Hard starting
Hard starting
Hello all,
I need some advice/help and hoping someone has seen this problem before. Truck is an all stock '06 and I have an intermittent hard starting issue. Truck has been into the dealer within the last 6 months for a P0191 CEL. They said something about a TSB-18 032 06 and reflashed the computer. I don't necessarily think this has anything to do with the hard starting problem, but figured I should mention it just in case. About 2 weeks after getting the truck back, I started having the hard starting issues.
It seems to happen most often when the engine is cold, especially after sitting for 24 hours or more. Sometimes it just seems to take a long crank to start, other times it will kind of fire (or misfire) but when you let the key go, the engine will spin a few revolutions and die. Usually the second try results in the same thing...crank, fire, let key go, engine dies. If the engine is warm like when running short errands, it will fire up quickly like it has for the last few years without any issues. Fuel filter has been changed within the last 5000-6000 miles, filter drained and no water found. In-tank pump sounds normal. I always use the fuel from the same Chevron station and have never found any water in the fuel.
I have found that if I turn the key to "run" but don't start cranking right away (waiting 10 seconds or so), it will start up normally. But, because the problem is so intermittent, I can't verify that this is an accurate statement. It never gets cold here so I'm fairly certain it's not a temperature related problem.
Has anyone seen this problem before? Any suggestions or advice? I don't want to take it to the dealer yet because they probably will tell me they couldn't duplicate the problem. I've been waiting for it to get worse but it's been a while and don't want to cause any permanent damage.
Thanks, Scot
