It could just be a kink in the linkage. It's pretty easy to check. Get a buddy to run through the gears while you're underneath checking the linkage for kinks, too much play, or broken plastic. (Probably better if the truck is off while you do it)

Hello---Another Noob here. I have the same problem. Occasionally, when my truck is started, you cannot get it out of park. Usually, a slight turn of the steerring wheel to the right will allow you to go to drive. Once in a while, I have to turn the truck off, and then go to neutral, and then restart. I took my truck to the dealer, but they (said) they couldn't find anything. I think it has to be in the linkage in the column. Any ideas???

Oh yea---2005 2500 CTD and auto, not mooded, all stock.

Thanks.

Radicalray: or anyone else:

If this is in the valve body, why does it matter if I turn the wheel slightly? Also, if this in the valve body, wouldn't it do it all the time? Not doubting anyones assistance, just trying to figure it out. Valve body might be a possibility, as I have also noted some wierd shifting; like going right by a gear and then into overdrive. The truck only has 35K miles.

Also, is there a TSB or something on this that I can take to my dealer?

Thanks for any help.

Not mooded yet, huh? Jeez, don't marry it, you'll get all the mood you can handle.

I agree with checking the linkage.
