Hello, I have a couple of questions concerning my 06 5.9 ctd. When I attempt to start it after having sat for a good while it will crank and crank and crank before it fires. After driving for a while and then letting it sit for more than 15 or 20 minutes it does the same thing. My question is, why is this happening? It seems as though it will not fire until the pressure builds to an acceptable level on the fuel rail. I have had the injectors checked and was told they are fine. I have also been told it is the fuel control modulator on the injection pump. Obviously the fuel control modulator is the less expensive place to start. Anybody on here have some advice and or solution for a somewhat inexperienced Cummins owner? Any help will be greatly appreciated...

 

Any codes when you cycle the key?

FCM should give you a code if bad and typically it'll cause bucking or an occasional stumble while driving in my experience.

 

I am unfamiliar with the cycling the key procedure. Please enlighten me. Thank you

Not full start one click before turning engine over.

It may be four times or five times, but three sounds right to me.
