Guess it's my turn, truck quit coming off highway and error codes

Was exiting the highway this afternoon and as the anti-lock breaks started working suddenly truck quit. Tried to restart and no luck. Waited a few minutes and it started but as soon as I applied throttle it quit again. Removed quad box and installed by-pass plug still no start. Finally started. Got home 3 miles and changed fuel filter, (Wasn't very dirty but thought what the hay). Restarted and drove 1/2 mile and quit again same thing. Finally got started and got home shut off but now can not restart no matter what. Getting the dreaded P0628 code but and I stress but I am getting fuel thru the filter. I don't kno9w how much but enough to see it flow out the overflow tube. When I bump the key I have filled the filter canister and can pump fuel out the overflow hose. Maybe the injector pump going bad? Any other ideas. I had been getting a code with the key on 3 times trick of P0191 but no one seems to know what that code is other than maybe fuel related. Anyway, dealer has tow truck on the way but probably won't get to checking it till Fri or more than likely ...Monday. Saw another post about wet connections but like was said there....how can you diganose standing roadside in the snow/rain mix with limited tools and supplies.

Thanks for any ideas.

Don

I do not know if you know but if you go to the top of the page you'll see a heading that , tech facts, and some of whats there is codes and yours [p0191] is not there. I did not see in your sig. that you have gauges in your truck , for this issue having a fuel pressure is a biggey, at least it sounds like one of the things could be , from what I've read your truck has a main pump that is very sensitive to the lift pump not working and with a gauge you could catch that before the main pump goes. If your lucky then maybe when it drys out it may work, that was the first thing that it sounded like with the brake & throdle you mentioned , electrical , hopefully when you hear from the dealer and the info you get from this site by monday you should have enough info to work with , but it should be under warentee . so its just a mater of being without until then. long story for no real info.

Clarifaction,

Get some fuel out the overflow, after checking but not much. Definatly not a stream of fuel, just a dribble. If it's a moisture problem, have driven for almost a year, in Floridia rains etc and no problem so not sure it would be that.

Let me clarify the ABS etc issue. I was comming off the highway and tried to stop when the ABS came on as the ramp was very slippery. I don't think it was associated other than the working of the ABS system. It acted like the truck stalled but then it wouldn't restart. Finally did then the rest of the problems followed.

It looks like your still under warentee so see what they say , then check back here to double check with everybody , some times the shops do not get it right the first time. I does sound like your not getting fuel , crack the fuel line coming from lift pump while someone is working the key , hopfully with gauge , if it is putting out enough than it may not be the main pump . I've read that the main can pull fuel through the LP and run the engine but makes short life of main .

This is from my DTC Database:

P0191 GENERIC Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit Range/Performance

Probable cause: Wiring, Fuel Rail Pressure (FRP) sensor

Did you remove the Quad wiring completely??

Yes, Totaly removed. Installed/bypassed and removed made no difference either. Took it completely off truck, just in case. I had spoken to the Diesel mechanic last week on getting the High speed idle enabled which he did for me but I causaly asked about modded trucks and he showed me his with Edge box 5" exhaust and stated he didn't care about mods. Even though I thught it would be a good idea to remove all including air intake. Maye someone else might be set to work on the truck. Only takes a few minutes to re-install if/when.

Talking Good news, bad news and again good news

Was the lift pump, mechanic got it in this am and confirmed that was what it was. Bad news was: Dealer didn't have pump kit in stock. Good news was mechanic had enough parts to do the repair from his personal stock. (He's a great young man and even thoguh he admits he has a lot to learn he is really good and willing to listen to suggestions etc). Now have the in tank replacement pump, hopefully it will be much better. Told him about this site and sugested that he might want to register and look around. Picked up truck this pm. Immediatly noticed the engine noise seemed quite a bit quieter. Maybe the noisyness was caused by the failing fuel pump. Anyways runs great. Got Quad parts reinstalled and all is well.

Thanks for the advice and sugestions.
