Guages and warranty???

I did some searching and read alittle, but has anyone had their warranty voided for just guages?

I am on the fence about purchasing guages. I just want EGT and trans temp guages cause from Spring to Fall I tow alot and hear the EGT's can get pretty high even on a stock truck. I want the sensor for the EGT to be pre-turbo. Has anybody actually had any issues with the probe coming apart and damaging anything?

Guys, I came from an '04 powerstroke which had WAY too many issues to get into, so Im just alittle paranoid. Any input would be appreciated.

Never heard of that, but some dealers may try anything.

If you look up the "magnuson moss act" you can get some info, basically it says that you can't have a warranty voided by a modification unless the dealer can prove the modification caused it (i.e. if you put a trans temp sensor and it leaks enough fluid out to burn on your tranny you're SOL).

But I'd say guages are a good investment - IMHO that is...

the only grief i've heard, is people who show up at the dealership with an outlook monitor, and the dealer figures that they must be using a triple dog. never heard of any problems with traditional gauges.

Had my 06 in once for a TSB and two other times for some starting stuff with my a-pillar triple gauge set-up and they never said a thing except that it looked good. Changed the gauges to the commander set-up and brought it in again for another starting issue and they never said a thing again. Truck was fixed perfectly everytime and dealer was great. I think a lot of it is with each and every dealer being a little different.

The dealer I went to after installing my gauges said they were glad I was concerned about monitoring the engine and how good they looked.
Havent had any probs with them being installed and warranty issues.

I haven't heard anything about gauges being questioned as far as warranty work. But, I've only had my truck back once and that was withing the first 1,000 miles for the "Hard start, white smoke" TSB.

I can't imagine them saying anything about it, monitor or analog.

Depends on dealer, I had my truck in for a TSB and when they saw my dashmount gauges they immediately thought my truck was hopped up. They gave me some grief but didn't say anything about warranty work except make sure the programmer or module was off when it came in . So maybe you should just let your dealer know what you doing and see what say. IMO gauges are important.

Gauges monitor engine functions - as long as you're not tied into the ECM / wiring harness there's no way that you could be impacting any engine functions - if any dealer tries to question this, point out that you're monitoring and not modifying. If you're not chipped (when you bring the truck in anyway) then you're on safe ground. Gauges are a good thing...especially if you're working the engine hard. Gauges are a must have if you're going to chip.

Thanks for the replies...I talk about doing "stuff" to my truck, but then I always chicken out mainly because of the really bad experience I had with my Ford. Without the warranty I would have been.......!

Like you said, Im monitoring not modifying. I tow alot from spring to early fall and sometimes pretty heavy and it concerns me that I cant monitor whats going on. Im just gonna get the two guages and be done with it, and when the weather breaks Ill install them. Thanks again for the encouragement.

Could we encourage you to get three gauges, EGT, Trans and "BOOST". You need to know how the turbo is performing relative to egt.

Like others said above. Some dealers will give you a hard time about it. My dealer is friendly mods ( more relaxed) when denying a warranty. I have a Isspro Tripple Guage Pod (EGT/Boost/Tranny), Banks Intercooler/Manifold, Exhuast, CAI & ATS Exhuast Manifold on my truck.

The Lead Diesel Tech there said to me they would NOT void my engine warranty if I had a problem because of my aftermarket mods. All I'm doing is monitoring my engine and tranny and open up more air flow to get the most out of it. Better running engine w/o comprimise and lower EGT.

Now if I had a programmer/tuner on my truck and it caused the problem. He said they would void it obviously, but depending on the repair/part cost (some wiggle room there).

I had my warranty voided because I had an edge sticker in the back window and the exhaust manifold was tapped. I would wait until you got out of warranty and then get gauges and injectors. None of my friends or my truck has made it past 100,000 miles without dropping an injector. I even blew up my motor because of it.

Okay, I started a thread about bogus reasons for voiding warranty and having a sticker and tapped manifold seems to be right up there. What was the underlying reason they voided the warranty? Was the truck in for a warranty claim and they said you had a box but pulled it off before coming in?? Details please.
