Question Grease Fittings

I understand that there are several grease fittings on my 05 that are supposed to be hit pretty frequently. Does anybody know where they are? How often should they be hit? What type of grease should be used?

I guess it's not really a big deal, but I like to have all of my bases covered.

Thanks much,
Walt_Mink

you got a fitting at each tie rod end [so 2] and if you are a 4x4, you might have one on the front driveshaft slip section and the fitting is in the end behind the u-joint [mine does not have this]

i hit mine with grease every oil change [so 2x per year] and this fall, i might drop my front shaft to grease the slip on it

Great, thanks nickleinonen. Do you have any particular recomendations on grease? Are they fairly easy to get to, or do I need one of those guns with the long hose?

IF you have a 4x4 there is a place on the front drive shaft knuckle (in front of transfer case) that has to be needle greased.

no special gun requires besides the needle one. I just use a normal gun with synthetic greese. I think that a synthetic one is better for water resistance and to help longevity.

I just changed the oil and greased the tie rods but I am still not sure where to grease the front drive shaft. Is there a grease zerk on it? I looked and could not see it, but there is a sicker by the radiator reminding me to grease it.
Please help!

look at the pinion end where the double u-joint/cv joint is, and inside [end of shaft behind u-joint] the shaft there is some oddball fitting that is suppose to be greased... i know mine doesn't have one.. i will drop and split the shaft next oil change and grease it up with some lubriplate or moly grease

There is a grease zerk on the u joint (front u joint of the Front CV joint). It's painted over factory and very hard to see (had to scrap the paint off with a screw driver) This is not a normal grease zerk, more like a hole with a spring loaded ball in it, you do need the neddle attachment to grease this. hope this helps. I bought a small grease gun and needle (like hand held) to use for this. (if you buy it attach it permantly, it's hard to use a grease gun and the needle thing all in one, i can show you what I did with mine if you want.

I have an 03 and had both of my drive shafts off when I did my clutch. There was no grease fittings on any of my u-joints. I am familiar with the flush type fittings and have the needle attachment that I used on previous trucks. Dodge has gotten cheap with the newer u-joints. Mine are all sealed. Maybe they just started putting greasable ones on the 05's.
