That angle cut needle is not what is putting the grease in that hole. You need one that is a little biggerand has an end that looks like this >
I'll bet he is putting the needle IN the hole, not over it. I noticed the same pattern of grease coming out where he shows, but I used the type fitting you show, which caused grease to get everywhere. If this needle fits INTO the hole, I will get one. I have some concerns about the sharp point, which I would probably grind off.

I found a similar needle on a syringe I had, which fit perfectly in the hole, but I wasn't man enough to push the plunger down. I could get grease to come out when it wasn't in the hole, but not the other way.

I tried the needle with this point > but it did not work - all I got was a big blob of grease on the outside of the grease fitting.

The angle cut fitting that I am using pushes the little ball back and actually enters the fitting. Pictures 3 & 4 show the opposite side of the grease fitting - i.e. the grease that you are seeing is what oozed out of the back of the fitting.

I agree w/ Alk. I first used the one that is supposed to seal outside the ball. I'm not sure how much grease got inside but plenty was on the outside. The next time I used the hypo type and inserted it at least 1/4" and squirted away. Soon I had grease coming out the far side. It really isn't a very large cavity so a couple pumps is probably plenty. I rounded the point a bit so it didn't score the fitting. It certainly is a lot easier to insert than trying to get a good seal with the other needle.

I bought a sharp point needle and the only hole i stuck it in was the one in my finger make by the sharp point needle. even with a sharp point, the fitting was to big to fit into the grease zerk hole. you need the appropriate grease gun fitting to grease this zerk. with the appropriate fitting, you will have to carefully align it with the zerk hole, then apply some pressure to hold the fitting in place while the grease is being pumped with either a one-handed, manual grease gun or preferably an air grease gun. I have greased mine with a two-handed, lever action grease gun, but that can be a little tough to do ie, hold the gun with one hand, work the lever with one hand and hold the grease fitting against the zerk with one hand. I don't know about most of you but I only have two hands.

AlK is right on! I went to O'Reilly yesterday, bought the grease needle, and it goes right into the grease fitting. I pumped several times, saw grease oozing from other spots than the fitting(!), and was done in 5 minutes.

Thank you AlK!
