Next time pick a spotter that is not half in the bag, maybe the driver too, lol. Air the tires down and fill them back up with Amsoil synthetic air.

ARB makes a bolt in air powered selectable locker for our front diffs. Eaton makes an electric one, but some grinding is required to install it. I don’t think either as one for the rears yet, however.

As the others have said, airing down will make the biggest difference of all. Instead of digging and sinking like a concrete block it will float over the sand. Helps a lot in mud and on rocks too.

If you have a 13k 5er connected and the problem is mud then how low can you air down?

The subject here has been about how to defeat sand. But to be honest, with mud, I'd stay fully aired up. I think the main keys with mud is tire speed, digging ability and how well the tires clean them selves, or kick the mud off. Where as with sand, you want floatation, hence the airing down, and momentum not tire speed. In sand if your tires spin too much, you'll just sink to the frame. Then agian, I have seen mud that will also swallow a truck whole...........

I know one thing; I will air down my tires next time I have to pull someone out I am not going to touch the Amsoil though because the bank won't loan me the money for that expensive stuff. I never applied my brakes when I was stuck, and I was wondering if when I was stuck if you applied the breaks and gave it the gas does it cause the back wheels to both start spinning? If thats the case I could have got out. I should have took a picture.

Chains! Air down for sand, chains for mud, ice, snow. both have saved me pulling my 5er.

I think amsoil has a special additive for traction if you spread it on your tires after you let a bunch of it out of your tires to get to the right pressure.
