and if you get just a boost fooler you will hit about 35psi. The guys going over that have programmers on but just a boost fooler on a STOCK truck will hit 35.

Mega, what kind of egt's are you seeing while pulling? Motor wise we have about the same setup except I have a Amsoil filter and no boost fooler. Just curious on the difference with and without boost fooler.

With a Quad BF and stock tunes mine would hit 40 psi and a little more at redline.

Took 200-250 degrees of the max EGT's with stock fueling.

I dont think so. i pulled with my truck for over a year with no gauges. after getting gauges i have not changed my driving habbets at all. my pyro is post turbo and pulling the same hill i always do. i can see 1000 1100. so on a stock truck i feel safe.
On a good pull egt pre turbo can be 500 higher than post turbo

I do under stand. but I just dont think it's a problem on a stock truck. my engine has not melted down yet so only time will tell. I just dont beleave that they will sell a truck that will melt it self. well mabey a ford.

This subject also always makes me wonder. I did some digging on the Cummins web site, where you can register your engine. In the Cummins manual it says not to hold WOT under the "max torque rpm" for more than 15 seconds. It says doing so is considered abuse of the engine. It goes on to say that when pulling you should hold a gear down to the "max torque rpm" before down shifting. That rpm on our motors is 1600 according to the brochure for my truck. I would guess they are trying to tell you not to lug the engine so that you don't run the EGT's up too high, but it never really mentions the egt's. I don't have gauges yet cause I'm all stock for now. I figure like some others here, if they wanted me to monitor it they would have included a gauge in the truck from the factory.

Qustion1 ^^= So correct me if I am wrong, but wouldn't post turbo be the temp that matters?? I always thought the temp after turbo (post) was what was in-line to the engine, therefore the mixtures of fuel in the engine and air from turbo would still be cooler than before (pre) turbo?? Maybe I am just a .

Question 2= As I eluded to in a previous question in this post, why can't the stock computer control the EGT's ie= increase RPM's ( auto only), increase boost, or whatever an aftermarket programmer does to keep EGT's in check ( more fuel...etc?) ?

stock tune mine used to hit 1400 on hard pulls

with my JR on SW#1 i cant get it over 1250.

stock gets so hot because the timing is very retarded from where it should be to run efficiently(EPA)

Negative. Temps at the manifold will run 300-500* hotter than after the turbo. The primary concern is melting a piston due to added fueling.
Temps read as close as possible to the combustion chamber are the most reliable.

'FSTDL' - Your temps are normal. I run 750* at 75 mph on the hwy, in 90* weather. That's at 450 hp (daily work driving).
Add a box with some fuel & timing, as mentioned, and keep rpm's up. This should solve your temp concerns.

So would using a Rokktech also help lower the egt's?

A friend in Denver has a 2001 CTD and I put on a pyro for him (pre turbo) and it ran over 1400, stock. So he took it to RM Cummins so they could see why it ran so hot and they moved the probe post turbo and told him... "there, it's fixed"! Craig

Keep the turbo spooling hard and don't lug when pulling and you'll keep egt's in check...

I love all this dont lug it talk, if your above 1500 RPM your not lugging If your going to down shift just because you see a hill you could just as well drive a gasserI run my TST on Timming only and smarty on 3 The egt's are lower then stock.
Try this when pulling before you downshift
1. Turn off your cruise.
2. When you come up to the hill floor it even if you are going the speed limit this will basicaly creat full boost going into the hill, the 35+ boost will keep your egt's in check. With the cruise on it will wait till you loose a little speed and by the time it starts adding more fuel you lost a little boost and your not going to gain any unless you down shift.
But what do I know I only tow 38K in Overdrive running 37's and never have to down shift
