Got another recall notice for the "back-up alarm"

Last time I called them and gave them an earful- No way is this "recall" to be performed on my truck! Must not have worked, they sent out another notice. Here's my response back:

That is one thing I can't stand about my new truck. Evidently they got mine working. Scared the heck out of me backing my snowmobile trailer this last winter. I thought there was something wrong with it.

i cut seatbelt wires & tied together on my 06, that fixed it.

that does not work in the older models, my 04 blew the horn all the time

Those shiney things on the doors are called MIRRORS. They are usually farther out than you could sick your head anyway. Then the horn would not bother you....................................Just a thought.

Your return response kills me. I like to open my door sometimes when backing a narrow low trailer. Sometimes mirrors just aren't enough.

I guess I need to learn to drive. I just don't get the vision out of mirrors trying to back up a 27' snowmobile trailer in a tight spot. Sure, I had to do it to avoid the honking, but I am not looking forward to backing up my 27' Searay into our very narrow boat launch here in a few weeks. Old habits are hard to break.

Put snow plow markers on the back corners of your trailers and you will always know where it is. I can back my car trailer anywhere without poking my head out the window. You know exactly where the rear of the trailer is.

I guess when you learn to back up 40 foot trailers when they are connected to a 3-axle Mack you would only use your mirrors!!!!

If you have an 06,On a recent post from Flying Ram ,this fellow says he followed the instructions on dissarming the enhanced seat belt reminder alarm on page 41 of the 06 owners manual and it also dissabled the backup horn feature.Might want to give it a try before cutting wires etc.

them instructions are harder than Chinese Math
might work though.

took me several tries to get it right on my 04, then had a TSB or something done, and it was gone again.
i don't think it affected the honking on the 04.
that thing was RUDE late at nite.

I drove truck most of my life.....I can not understand backing ... hanging your head out the door? You can see what ever you're towing at all times with mirrors.....unless you loose your trailer over the bank!

Talking

I agree that the mirriors work. I have never seen a 18 wheeler have any problems doing it and they go into tighter spots than me. My problem is lack of experience in backing up long trailers. It's a habit I have and I'm working on it!

I still don't like the feature. It's my truck and I don't like it!

Backing is not the issue with me... It is hooking up a trailer early in the morning... Sometimes if I am about an inch back or forward... I open the door and push the brake with the left hand and put the truck in gear with the right and let is move an inch and then put it back in park.... Or at night I will set the parking brake while the truck in in R so I have the lights...
Is that dangerous?? Yeah... if you are stupid about it... but then so is driving in general >> With or without a trailer.

The longer the trailer, the easier it is to back up.
