Rotella, Delo and Delvac are all excellent oil. If you go syn, your wasting your money unless you are doing longer drain intervals with added filtration and capacity. Walmart sells the above for $11-12/gallon, can not beat that price, and swap it out every 7500-10,000 miles.

Best advice...

go to the website: bobistheoilguy.com

educate yourself and make your own decision. The best oil info out there in my opinion.

I had been told to use the cheapest oil that meets the specs and that made sense to me. However, I put Traveler 15W-40 from TSC in my truck and there was some sort of ash or sediment in the bottom of the oil jug after I poured it in my truck! Needless to say I will use Rotella T from now on.

I bought my 05 3 years ago with 68000 on the odo.........the dealer gave me 2 free oil changes and they used Rotella. After I had used them up I went to the Valvoline Premium Blue that others have mentioned and could really tell a difference in the way the engine sounded and so forth. Much more quiet. I have always been a Valvoline guy in a lot of other things from tractors to cars. I will continue to use the Cummins Premium Blue by Valvoline in the 05.

Shell rotella 15/40 with ELF7349 filter. I might try the Valvoline since one person stated it did make a difference to his ears.

It is best to use full synthetic diesel oil, but it is expensive and its use is not justification for extending oil and filter changes. Also, I don't believe the current extended manufacturer recommended oil change interval is good advice. It may be a sales point, but it is poor advice for someone who expects the truck to last 10 yrs. or more, well beyond any factory warrantee.

I bought my current truck new in 2004, but I cannot find decent diesel oil at a reasonable price, so I have used automotive spark engine oil for more than 10 yrs., but I change oil and filter every 6 mos. and drive 11,000 miles a yr. I use garden variety dino oil. So far no ill effects. The oil is almost as clear as it went in when drained. Now, I am not recommending this, but it has worked for me.
