Going for a talk at the dealer.
Why would your dealer tell you your truck can only pull 13,400??? depending on gearing...you can pull 15 to 15,500 lbs. So somebodys giving bad info at your dealer, and thats a bad sign.
I'm pulling 14K and have never had a problem like what your stateing. I wouldn't want a stick shift myself, I'm to lazy to mess with that craap.
Your trannys smoked, plain and simple. What are you hauling weight wise ??? I see no 5er hitch of any kind in your pictures, so is it TT??
It's obvious your dealer has a hack shop, if this is not the first time this has happened, and they can't fix a simple thing like that.....Head down the road and find another one.

Ok, you make no sense at all. This is about the worse thing i've read so far. You know how many otr tractors out there have autos? dump trucks, etc. you name it. Where i work we have a fleet of over 25 dump trucks with ALL autos, sure some have problems but majority are doing fine!!!! More and more class 8's are being sold with autos. I bet in the next few years it will be harder to find a manual in those trucks...

Gess, I think I confussed myself.

These remarks are not made at anyone in this post. Please do not take it that way. Just trying to get a laugh.
Well just got back. I had 2 codes that was thrown. One for tranny and one for rail pressure. They are going to try this first. I did seem to help the shifting some and fuel miliage went up to I think. I just had my trailer behind her and thats on 4k so no test yet. I also talked with the GM and he said we will work something out. So time will tell.

Out of curiosity, which dealer? I'm in western NC too. Thanks.
Ross in Boone. Today I was working and took it into a field and the slipping is still there. So I had to put it in low 4x4 it done ok then but nothing to bragg about. Then being in reverse and putting it into park there is a grinding sound. I am completly stoped to.
It does sound like you just have a bad tranny. The dealership should honor your warranty and fix it. Chances are after your experience today that's what they will just have to do with no further 'quick fixes'.
Years ago I recall a fellow who manufacturers GN trailers telling someone that his 'regular' drivers license would be good for a combined gross of 25,999, after that he would have to have a class '2' commercial. If that combined gross is still a measuring point for driver's licenses, then theoretically if your truck is around 8K you can actually have 18K behind it with a pin weight in the bed of 10%/1800#'s. Now I realize this is all hypothetical, but, your Cummins rig CAN handle that amount. Not sure if I would want to run around with a load like that, but there ARE many who do, and they do it with class and style.
Somewhere is ALL the threads on this forum, there was someone who was having a problem with an auto tranny similar to yours sometime ago. That person WAS getting a new tranny/maybe rebuilt and new to him, or his was going to be rebuilt/worked on (not sure) and that person approached the dealer about having them install a better billet TC while they were at it. I don't know how that came out, but maybe that person will see this and chime in to discuss what his outcome was? This could be an option to explore, maybe your dealership will do the work, cover the $$ value of the warranty side and you could pick up the difference for a better build?? If your dealer is workable, sometimes these things have a way of working this stuff out this way. It certainly would be worth a try in discussion?? They DO need to compensate you for all the hastle.

Well been on the phone 3 times with them today. They want me to bring it back again. I told them this is getting old. I believe they are trying to help me but dont know what to do. I hope they dont think I am making this stuff up. I will keep trying.
Was sitting at the dealership here awhile back and the service manager was on the phone with someone who obviously had been in multiple times for tranny issues. Overheard the service guy say that he had been on the phone with DC and they would replace the tranny but it would be a rebuilt unit not a new unit. DC said they didn't have any more "new" units as the production line is now building the new auto for the 6.7 and all the 48RE's have been built out.
