Gears and 35" tires ??

I am looking at buying a new mega cab and want input on the best setup for gearing. I do about 5-10% towing, so very little. Also, driving is 60% city/ 40% hwy. I am going to get an Automatic 4x4 and want an opinion on the best gear ratio between the 3.73 and 4.10? I plan on running 35" tires and want to know what you all think on what would be the best on the truck and mileage. Would it be better to go with the 3.73 and lug much more around town or 4.10 and be in a more even gear range?

I have a 05 QC 4x4 Auto now with 3.73, Edge Attitude/Juice, exhaust, and intake and just put on 33" Trxus M/T and can definitely tell a ton of difference in the power range and it definitely has to work harder to turn the tires (about 2.5 mpg worse), but I wonder if 4.10's it wouldn't have to work as hard and in doing so maybe get better mileage?

The perfect combo is the auto with 4.10's, especially if you're getting 35's. That will be my setup on my next truck.

I wish I had 4.10's with my NV5600....

I specifically ordered my 05 with 4.10's knowing that I'd have 35's or 37's on soon thereafter. I've got about 3 weeks with the 35" Toyo AT's on now,and the 4.10 have turned out to be perfect with these tires. A good decision if you plan on 35's soon!

The auto for towing or bigger tires and especially in town driving the 4:10's is the best combination.

I have 4.10's with 35's, before the 35's my truck was a lot quicker off the line, after the 35's noticed a big difference. I was thinking about running 4.56's like the powerwagon's do.

i have 35`s with 3.73`s and a 6 speed....bone stock,it took a little from me on the bottem, but then i added quads tow box and did the tone ring mod.i think its perfect now.i dont really tow heavy, just 3 to 6k lbs,and it pulls great.i dont really see wanting or needing lower gears at all.this set-up puts me at 2k running low 70`s,about perfect i think............bama

i have the 4:10's and 35" tires, and wish i had the 3:73's
the rpms are a little much for me on the highway.
but i gues i will put a little lift in it and run 37" tires, that should put me right where i wannna be.
it will depend on what you are going to use the truck for as well.
when i pull a trailer, i think the 4:10's are just right.

I had 35's with the 48re and 3.73's and I hated it. It was really hard on the truck driving at around 55 mph. I lost 3 to 4 mpg as well. I'm sorry, but I don't believe most of what I read on here in regards to tire size and gear ratios based on my own experience. I'd be more likely to believe my mother is a virgin then to believe that there are people on here getting 18 mpg with 37's and 3.73's. I can't get 18 mpg with the stock tires. When I had 35's, I was getting 11 in town and 13.5 on the hwy. IMHO, anyone with the 48re and 3.73's is really pushing it with 35's. If you have a 6 speed, then it should be all good. 4.10's are a much better option for oversized tires.

I have the 3:73's with 315's...no problems and rides fine. I did lose a little grunt off the line but with all my mods I got that back and then some.

You cant get 18 mpg w/ the stock tires on? I'm running 35's now w/ 3.73's and im averging 17-18 on the highway.

Like everyone else is saying, I do notice some loss of low end power. Getting a Roktech sensor soon.

I can get 18 according to the overhead if I'm empty on flat land running a constant 60 mph. Of course that drops at the first stoplight I hit. I guess I have a different idea of what constitutes getting "18" mpg. It's possible to get that type of mileage under certain conditions while moving, but to average 18 while doing any type of real world driving has not been done by myself yet. Even at 80% hwy, the best I can muster is upper 15's average and thats driving like a little old lady with stock tire. And that is driving with the TST on 1/1 which is timing only?

I guess in theory, my truck will get 25 mpg. That is if I'm coasting down a hill. Maybe I have just been unlucky, but I think it's pretty much accepted that larger tires = loss in MPG.

I'm running 38's and 4.10's with auto and it seems to work good.
I'm getting ready to swap out my converter for one thats a bit looser so I can get the turbo going while towing. From stop right now it smokes like a freight train cause the converter stalls @ 1200 (read WAY to low) so swaping for what is supose to be a 1800 stall.
I used to run 3.54's with this set up and was fine with that as well.

Also I'm getting 19.6 hand calc average with this truck. Overhead says 26.3 and I've had the speedo calibrated for the tires size.
120 miles a day round trip all freeway.
