*EDIT* Would that be right for me with 3.73 gears?? 70mph with 2-2100rpms?
They didn't make the manual and auto close. The G-56 manual runs much higher rpm's at highway speeds than the auto

Uh-uh, by definition ANY transmission that has one or more gears in which the output shaft turns faster than the input shaft is an "Overdrive" transmission.

What DC does with their marketing is irrelevant because, well, it IS marketing BS after all.

Yeah, but that would neccessitate a whole new design of a light duty transmission to fit the truck. They just used an existing design that had 5 gears at or less than 1:1 to save costs. The Cummins has the TQ to carry the shift points for its rated weight so it works.

Yeah that makes sense I guess I was just a bit disappointed going from an auto 96 CTD to my current truck and running around the same if not a little over the same rpms at the same speed.

Now everyone states how the 4.10 gears are better for towing now why is that exactly? None of the trucks I have used for hauling ever had 4.10 (or 4.11 in some cases) and they seemed to pull fine. Now granted I never pulled with the 4.10's but would they make that big of a difference?

The lower the gear ratio and the taller the tire the better the leverage is even though the final drive ratio is the same. Think of the gears as a lever, the closer the pivot is to the load the longer the movement is but a lot easier. Tire height just adds a multiplier on the pivot.

These trucks pull the GCVW just fine with 3.55's because of the TQ. Push the weight up over 30k and the lower gears become imperative to keep the drive lines together. Medium duty trucks run heavier drive lines, lower gears, and taller tires for a reason.

See, I'm still on stock 265s and am about 200+ RPMs higher than that at the same speed, and I have an auto...4.10s right?

3.73 is the best you can do on hiway gears but dana 80's are common should not be to hard to make one work say one from an 01 or 02 and gears are plentiful

I know my knew (6spd ) seems low.Thats why i run (325s) helped me out. You can only get (373s) in a (6spd)i could not drive with (410s) with the knew (6spd) if they made it your talking real low speeds on the road.
