Gear change

I am wanting to change my 3.73 gears for 4.10 because of tire size change. Has anyone swapped out gears and had any problems or whining noise with aftermarket gears?

It's a lot of work and money for a very small change. As for the whining it is almost allways a result of poor installation. In order to be strong and live gearsets need to be setup carefully and it can take more time than a lot of people are willing to spend. That is not to say that all of the aftermarket gears out there are the same, it's just to warn you that a good set of gears set up by a bad technician are likely to be weak and noisy.

Good set-up is the key to any diff change. If the gears are making noise it means they were not set-up right. On my rockcrawler I perfer Richmonds or Yukon gears they seem to last the longest.

I know some people are working on a ratio in the 3.40 range but still not sure when they may be comming to market.

Put 35's on a truck with 3.73 and you get about 3.30's...great for low rpm's empty...bad for pulling.
