g56 bearings
anyone ever had a g56 standard tranny fail, due to a bearing, or something other than too much power, or doing something silly, IE- Burn outs, drag racing, pulling way to much weight, dumping the clutch, etc.
My truck has an odd vibration that I can feel thru the stick in truck. Its enough that it makes my hand numb, and just has me thinking bad things about my trans. I am due for a clutch, that I know, but not sure what else it could be. I have done the one piece drive shaft mod, and switched to AMS OIL synthetic lube for the trans, not sure if this is something I didn't notice before, or what?

it is the dual mass flywheel. most all of them fail before 75,000 miles. one of our three failed at 36,000. southbend has the best kit. they sell about 200 of them a day. the new solid flywheel transmits more noise than the dmf did so do not be concerned with the new noise

one other thing the g56 needs one quart over full to protect and keep the front bearing cool. some 06's left the factory one quart low. it is best to change the oil to atf+4 and to smell the old oil for burnt smell to see if it was one that was low. also the dmf is hard on the front g56 seal nearly every one we have seen the front seal is seeping when we go to install the sb. so check it when you have it down

Put a bearing kit in mine at 320k miles. I also now run Synchromesh oil in it.
Call http://www.standardtransmission.com/
The bearing kit is like 300 bucks. These trannies are very simple to work with. I had my local trans shop press off the old and press on the new.
Rebuilt mine for less than 500 total. Ive put over 30k on it since. Its working great!

bearings
There is a Valair double disc in the truck now, haven't put the south bend in it yet. I am pretty confident the guy that had the truck before me, but the hell out of it. Its on 37's right now, and has been for quite some time, the last owner mentioned. I know he was doing 4 wheel drive burnout's with it, so that's my concern. I pull a 40' toyhauler camper now at least once a month, and its seems like the vibes are getting worse. I don't want to dump $1,500 on a new clutch, then have the trans fall apart. I had heard about the g56's being a quart low from the factory, so I had the tech put the extra quart in it. Actually, I think he put as much as he could get in it. (pretty sure it was 6 qts.)
Colo-dirtbikers, how did you know it was time for bearings? Did something fail, or did you take it apart and check it out. Sounds like it would be a relativley cheap fix.
