i just heard about a fuel vent mod for the third generation trucks. i'm aware of how the mod is done. has anybody that has done this mod had any expansion problems, ie fuel coming out of filler because tank is now holding more fuel?

 

no problems here and I always fill up to the top and it is well over a 100 everyday here.

 

I love the mod. No problems with spillage. My tank holds like an extra 5 or 6 gallons or so now....and increased my cruising range by at least a 100 miles or so.

 

No problems here either. I can put 39.5 gallons in right at the first "cliick" of the fuel nozzle. I fill it up to the neck every time and I've not had any problems in the Florida heat.

Where did you guys get the info for doing the tank mod? Does anyone offer a kit? I had my truck into the dealer for some kind of a vent safery recall, but I am sure it was just some kind of a band-aid and probably not done the way it should really be done to get it right.

The vent tank mod is easy to do, but you have to drop the tank. It just uses the expansion space in the upper side of the tank that is needed for gasoline fumes. DC uses the same tanks on our trucks as the gassers. It just moves the vent.

Here is a link with a write up and pics by Pet05 regarding the recall thing. This is much better than the dealer method of just putting on 2 pieces of hose. There are two plastic barbed fittings on top of your tank. Those are open for venting and are believed to allow grit, dirt, sand etc into your tank. this is probably the best 50 bucks and 2 hours I have spent on my truck since 05. I get to drive about 100 miles before the gas gauge needle moves off the peg. Increases range by 85-95 miles. Just be careful lowering the tank as the return line into the sending unit can get a bit brittle. Once it snaps you will get to buy a shiny new sending unit cause DC doesn't offer just the housing. Best of luck.

 

Even when we were in the 'teens, I never had a problem with expansion on a full tank. When I say full, I mean that I fill it until fuel is ALL the way up the filler neck and about to spill over. Overkill you say? Yes, but VERY consistent fill ups!

Before I installed the kit from innertruck, I could slow fill the tank for another 4-6 gallons and waste 20 minutes per fill up. Now, I slow fill for ~1/2-1 gallon.

Install the kit & quit worrying about it!

Both ARE nice kits, but you will still need a filter for the dirt.

i like this idea ... do the 07's have the dirt problems that the older ones do? i would assume that they fixed that with the newer model year but then again they are not always the smartest folks on the planet.
