Fuel Rail Pressure
Fuel Rail Pressure
Does anybody kn ow the stock specs for the fuel rail pressure on an 05? Someone told me that 22-23,000 is stock but today I took the chips off my dads 05 and it was completely stock. The only exception was the outlook monitor but it only monitors everything so I was giving her and I saw atleast 24,500 psi in the fuel rail just under 25,000psi. Should I be worried about this?
The truck did have an edge ez stacked with bdpp and it would get just under 27,000psi.

There is no "spec", the ecm varies the "setpoint" depending on conditions and load. Trick is that you want your rail psi to mirror the setpoint. Personally I'm not too big a fan of any box that increases rail psi. The only failed pressure limiting valves I've seen have been with "bombed" trucks that increased the rail psi.
There was a poll in 3rd gen aftermarket showing that the injector failure rate was 4 or 6x higher on engines running boxes versus those that weren't. I suspect, but do not know for sure, that higher pressures were involved with running those boxes.
I would not increase the rail pressure on my engine under any circumstances.

Don M had pics of what happens to injectors that has been used with pressure boxes. The problem is bore erosion. The higher pressure slowly eats away at the metal. It's a slow process and the user wouldn't notice until the damage is done.
If you are running a pressure box keep it set to the lowest setting, or just don't run it at all.

I occasionally see a little variance in what the Outlook monitor reports….same settings with no changes. I really wouldn’t bet on it being 100% accurate, for what its worth.

I'd be more worried about cracking injector bodies than orifice erosion.
The HP gains at WOT due to pressure are not that significant. The fuel delivered varies as the square root of pressure, so going from 23,000 PSI to 26,000 PSI yields:
sqrt(26,000)/sqrt(23,000) = 6%. On a 325HP engine, that is 20HP.

The truck is completly STOCK right now 100% STOCK fueling I simply want to know if you guys think that mid 24,000 psi is too high for a stock fuel rail pressure because that is what my dads 05 is getting right now with it 100% stock. I repeat NO FUELING BOXES OF ANY KIND IT IS 100% STOCK. Does 24,500 psi seem high for stock fuel rail pressure? If so could a regulator or something be messed up?

While I'm quoting Don, he has also said that he didn't see any problems with injector bodies until he reached the 31,000/32,000 psi range if memory serves me right. Other problems with tips and seats turned up at lower pressures before the bodies had issues.
