Fuel MPG ?
Fuel MPG ?
Well, I towed my TT(7K lbs.) w/ 4 wheeler in the bed(650 lb) this week for the first time on a 220 mi trip. I only got 10.5 mpg. Terrain was relatively flat(N. Texas) & I never went over 65 mph. See sig for truck info. My ? is, does this seem right or does it seem a few mpg's low? Anyone w/ similar equip. w/ similar load weight? What mpg's are you seeing? I have 18K mi. on the truck. Any input is appreciated.

I get 13.5 -14 (hand calculated) when towing my Jeep. It's about 6000lbs with trailer and all gear. A little different from your load and also a 6 speed trans in my truck. Just for some comparison for ya.
Thanks, ya'll. I was hoping it was gonna be a little better than this, especially w/ the XZT. It does pull this load NO problem, though. I guess I should just be happy w/ that.

My truck was getting 9-10 mpg towing my 5ver, however my cel came on for the rationality code and my overhead would read -40 and +140, I took it to the dealer and they reflashed the ecm and the overhead. First thing I noticed was the avg fuel economy went right to 17-17.5 mpg, (13-14 mpg best prior) not even with a sail on the roof and wind to my back did this truck see that kind of mpg. So not believing the overhead, I fill it up and prepare to hand calculate, after two weeks on the new update the avg mpg hand calculated was between 17-18 mpg of mixed driving. Here is the good part,
I bought a Quad XZT from DTR and put it in about 5 months ago, fuel mpg did not increase and the engine would stumble on intitial cold soak start then run ok after that. I found a bad plug moulding on the Quad harness, I call Quad and talk to Jeremy and he says send it in, they reflash the module and provide a new harness. I reinstall the XZT and road test, ran ok but not the way it should have and fuel economy actually went down, I pull it out and call Quad, talked to a tech and explained everything it was doing and that I was waiting to get my truck to the dealer for and update to the ecm. We decided to wait and see if the new flash and the XZT would work together.
Meen while I am waiting for my dealer to get an update disk from STAR so they can update their scanner so they can update my truck. ( that is what they told me) It took them 3 months to get the update, all the while driving completely stock. After the update and with the mileage increase I start second guessing installing the XZT, but decide to try it anyway, wow what a difference, it worked the way it was intended to.
As to not make this a high performance discussion, just to elaberate on the chain of events leading up to my 2,200 mile round trip to Myrtle Beach S.C.
towing my 5ver loaded right up, truck and trailer just under 22k combined,
avg fuel economy was 14.1 mpg for the entire trip with appx 200 miles of local driving, avg highway speed 68 mph.
The entire truck ran absolutely flawlessly, I looked for the ecm change sticker under the hood, but there was not one there, so I will check my paper work to see what the update number was and post it later.
With this update I did not see an obvious power increase, but it did seem to accelerate easier and faster under light throttle while in stock form and seems to be working well all the way around.
I hope this answers some question, but as for now it looks like I will finally be getting improved fuel economy.

Hvytrkmech, see if you can found out which one it was. It seems like everytime I take this thing in for a prob., they flash it for one thing or another.
Tree DR, you are passed warranty so they will charge you to the tune of about $400, so I'm told. You can go to any certified dodge dealer & get a list of repairs/ flashes by using the VIN as long as the repairs were done @ a cert. dodge dealership. HTH.
