Fuel Filter Socket

FYI, the size of the socket head on the fuel filter is 29mm. Best used with a universal and an extension. Always start the cap by hand and use O-ring lube on the new O-ring. Never use Diesel to lube the rubber O-ring.

1 1/8"=2.8575 centimeters or 28.575mm. Close enough to 29mm for gov't work! I've never had consistant "luck" using Diesel for a lubricant, especially on delivery valves. Engine oil is OK, but I personally like using O-ring lube. It just seems to slather on better and I don't have to be concerned with the O-ring getting pinched. But, whatever floats your boat

600000/10000=60 filter changes with a 1-1/8" open end wrench and the "O" ring gets whatever residual diesel is on my fingers when I walk it around the cap.

Nothing wrong with doing it by the book, I'm just too cheap to buy the socket and lube.

Just make sure the IR is set on 5 and you're running 125psi to get it snugged down right and proper

I was using diesel on the o-ring for all this time because I thought that was the correct way of doing it. What brand/type of lube are you guys using on the o-ring?

Diesel is fine as long as it's clean and the o-ring doesn't get pinched. Otherwise, I like Lubriplate or regular tube grease.

Dow Corning makes a lube that I like (Dow 111), Wurth makes a silicone lube that is great too, or you can use dielectric grease that you put on electrical connections. Use your finger, not a brush or rag that could leave hair or lint on the sealing surface.
