went to cummins west to get a couple fuel filters. the guy at the counter didnt seem to know what the heck he was doing, apparently there is no "book" any more and it's all done on computer, which didn't list any dodge part numbers. i had him look for a 2005 dodge 3500 and it didn't show a fuel filter. there was a cross reference cheat sheet which showed fs19855. is this the right one? if not which one do i need? thanks.

Baldwin Makes a 5 micro filter that will go into the stock canister. PF7977. This is a couple of microns better than the factory filter.

7 micron is the best your going to get from Dealer/Fleetguard. Baldwin makes a 5 micron drop in. I run the 5 micron AND the glacier 2 micron fleetguard.

 

ok, so where is the cheapest place online to get these PF7977's?

only 1 vendor on ebay has them, and he is selling a combo of fuel,oil and air filters (1 each) which I dont need. I just want the fuel filters. I emailed him, but he never responded.

The Fleetguard numbers are LF16035 Stratapore Oil Filter, FS19856 Premium Fuel Filter (7 micron).

 

Before going with Baldwin filters, be warned. Baldwin filters have had a lot of poor performance and failures lately according to the Heavy Trucking Industry Magazines and various OTR Truck Drivers that I have talked to.

If you really want a 2 Micro filter in fleetguard you can go to Glacier Diesel and install one their MK In line filters kits between the canister and the CP3, It is recommend when going to a smaller Micron Rated Filters to go down in steps (such as 20, 10, 5, and 2 microns filters).

not doubting your info, but i did a search for 'Baldwin filter failuers' and the first 10 pages (stopped looking after 10) were nothing more than positive reports from car and truck sites and forums (gas and diesel), positive from several tractor sites and forums, and even positive reports from a Ferrari and Harley Davidson forum. there were several links to reports of failures of other brands of filters, but not a single report of a Baldwin failure.
