fuel filter change,no start
fuel filter change,no start
anybody run into this problem before, and could point me in the right direction.
i changed out my fuel filter, as i do every 10,000kms.
i am running a Diesel Dynamics carter pump, on the frame rail, which comes with a factory type wiring harness, which plugs into the factory wiring by the filter housing. every time i go to fire up the truck after changing the filter, it doesn't want to start. last night took a long time to get running. seems that when i turn the key forward, the pump won't run. when it was factory, i would turn the key forward 3 times, and the lift pump would run, and fill the bowl. i don't even empty the bowl . i drain maybe 1/4 of it out, so i don't get that splash of diesel when pulling the filter out. now i can run my booster box under and jump the pump, and it runs, i leave it there for like a minute, to fill the bowl, and it still don't start, even trying to start while the boost pack is on the pump making it run.not too sure how this system works, but it should prime the filter bowl, and pressure up the CP3???
why would the CP3 drain back from a simple filter change, or do i have another problem?????
anybody know what i should look for, or if even these pumps run when the key is forward????

what pump are you running???
i have tried the key forward pretty much the whole time, does seem to work. i am not sure if that pump even works with the key forward, maybe don't even work with that wiring. i know when i first installed the pump , in the summer, it was a little noisy, when you first turned the key forward, the noise went away about 3 weeks into using the pump. it still don't make noise, even if i jump the pump with the booster pack. i know the pump runs, but don't know if it is working with the key on, or if the motor turns, but doesn't pump????kinda confusing

one thing i forgot to mention, is that usually when i pull out my filter, it is some what dirty, or dark in colour compared to a new one. this time when i pulled out the filter, only the bottom half was dirty, the top have was like there was never any fuel on it, but it was wet.this has never happened before, but i did change this one out sooner then my last couple of filters. i normally change the out around 10,000kms, but this one i changed at 8500kms.
i run additive on every fill up, usually lucas, or the amsoil stuff, i think i had a tank or 2 that i used some 2 stroke oil.
anybody running the power to their aftermarket lift pumps differently from the factory wiring. i am wondering if some thing is wrong and it is not getting power with the key turned forward. i know i need a relay in there some where in order to use the cool down function with the TST box, but i still am not sure how to do that.

i run my holley blue thru the fuse box on my 03 that way i know its working with the key plus i can still hear it. i believe their is something on the injector rail that will allow the diesel to run back to the tank and not allow it to pressure up but i cant remember what it is
