Fuel Filter change

Yesterday I changed the fuel filter. What a pain in the ***.

In the bottom of the fuel filter there was a lot of crap that looked like sand but would disappear between your fingers if you rubbed your fingers together.

Thinking it was dead bacteria or algae I decided to dump some alcohol in there and let it kill what ever was in there.

I was also not seeing any fuel coming out of the drain tube......

I go get my air hose and blow from the bottom up into the fuel housing and make it bubble but it certainly looked and sounded clogged up. So I had the alcohol bubbling up and cleaning , right?

I let it set with the drain open and still nothing out of the drain. I go get my oil pump vaccum sucker and begin sucking out everything in the fuel bowl bottom. I got that sucker clean as the day it was put in service.

Then I go and bump the key a few times to get new fuel in the bowl to see if the drain works now. ! Hell Yeah ! Now it will drain because I removed all the crap in it.

I religiously use biocide in every tank and a fuel injector cleaner by lucas oil.

I use stations that pump a lot of diesel as well.

Question, why is my fuel so **** contaminated and can I get a different fuel filter/water separator bolted to the truck frame and bypass the stock filter altogether?

After all this I had a hell of time getting the engine to run. It acted like it was starving for fuel, but eventually ran fine......any ideas? did some of that alcohol get in the injectors ou thinK?

It has 75,000 miles on it and I'm seriously thinking about taking it to the dealer for fuel injectors.

To clear the drain tube, you can open the drain and bump the key.

If it continues to build that much gunk, maybe it would be good to have the tank removed and cleaned.

I've been thinking of adding one of those 2 micron filter kits, but I'd probably keep the stock canister- as a prefilter, and to retain it's water seperator and fuel heater functions.
