frustrated 06 hard start

I hate to beat the dead horse. I am at work at the fire station and our Internet access is poor so searching here is impossible sometimes. My truck started to crank a long time cold after setting overnight and now will not start unless I use a little starting fluid. It does help if don't have it on a incline and plugged in at night. Is the lift pump in the tank for this year? I tried the pull code thing by turning the key but did not see any codes. Any help would be great..... please help... thanks

Thanks I will look at this tomorrow when I get home. Probably going to get the batteries tested also . Seems like it just cranks for a short time before they are weak. Anyone else have any suggestions?

There are a few things you can do to trouble shoot what the issue might be.

First the lift pump: turn the key to the ON position and you should hear it kick on for a few seconds. Bump the starter and it'll run long enough for you to open the drain on the filter bowl. If fuel runs out at a pretty good stream, lift pump is good.

Second, injectors: On top of the engine, next to the valve cover, there will be two electrical connections. Those are for the injectors. What you can do is unplug them and use an ohm meter to check the resistance of the solenoids. What you'll see is this ------. First two pins are #1, middle pins are for #2, last pins are #3. Connection by the firewall: front pins are #4, middle pins #5, end pins are #6. If any of them read more than 1.0, that injector is shot. A good reading will be .4 to .7.

I do hear the lift pump in the tank. I will have to wait until tomorrow to ohm check the heat grid and injectors. I can not get the codes to come up on the OD screen by turning the key on and off 3 times. So I will go to O'reilly's in the morning and have them check my batteries and my codes. It seems my batteries are weak. thanks for all the help.

Do heat grids throw a code? It starts right up when plugged in after setting all night.

To get the codes try holding down the trip button while doing the key thing.

06 will give codes, turn the ignition from off to on quickly three time, leave in the on position the third cycle. codes will show in the odomiter. If there are no codes you will get a -- display. You do not need to hold the trip reset that will give you hours on the motor.

Well it shows basically a battery code . As mentioned earlier they have been acting weak. Sounds like a good battery check needs to be done. I will post the final results tomorrow. thanks to all that helped
