Front/Rear Axle Service Intervals???

Have you guys noticed that the gear oil change, Schedule B intervals, is at every 15,000 miles? Schedule A has no recommended changes.

I have a friend with a new Chev. Duramax with the AA axles and he was surprised at how often DC recommends changing the gear oil, especially considering that it is a synthetic.

I called AA and was told that the first change was critical but, after that every 50,000 miles would be sufficient. He suggested that DC was just trying to sell expensive oil, to us.

Just curious if you guys thought 15,000 mile intervals was reasonable, or not.

Thanks.

Reasonable? Thats debateable, but I changed both my axle(s) fluid at that time. Gonna do it again when the weather warms up a bit more.

I do agree that the first time is the most crucial (unless you like to submerge the axles).

I have done mine three times now. The first one was either necessary or D-C uses an unusually foul smelling, funky grey looking gear oil. The subsequent changes were excessive, but I launch a boat and submerse the axle all the time so I am staying with the 15K requirement.

I changed mine to Redline at 15k. I plan to check them at 30k and if the magnetic plugs are not to muddy and the oil looks fairly clean I plan to push on. But to what I'm not sure.

How did you get in touch with AAM. I have a number for them and they never answer it. What number did you call?
