Front end clunk?
My 2003 did the same thing and wouldn't ya know it, yup the left side U joint went! Now I'm looking at the left side ball joints and right side U joint! all at 74.000 miles! My U joint went with NO notice though. I do all my work myself and man-o-man if you have to do it have a press handy! Thoes U joints do not like to leave peacefully!
front axel ujoints are covered 7/70 power train ! had mine done under warranty . ball joints are not covered .my front end did the same as yours and it was ujoints.57000 miles.ball joints at 76000 miles .now that I know if one goes like ujoints then do ball joint also .you are already there in the tear down it is basicly parts.I have a 2003
Are you sure the U joints are covered. If they are I am going to have them replace them at the dealer and posible work a deal to get the Ball joints done. But either way if they take the hubs apart it will be alot easier getting them apart myself after they fight with them.
So i went to the dealer. what a joke.
They had never heard of a SERV 4WD light before. Never even seen one. It wasn't on when i had the truck there.
There were codes in the computer for open circuits on 2wd, 4wd, and 4low. They cleared the codes and even heard the popping noise but said it wasn't a major concern. They then blamed it on my Bullydog. I said no way. It originally happened with a Smarty on the truck....(maybe the Smarty fried a sensor in the transfer case HAHA....but i won't argue that so lets move on) The light came on stock, smarty-ed, and bullydog scary larry. They didnt check u joints or hubs or the actuator in the transfer case....just looked at it apparently.
Not 2 minutes after i leave the dealer, the light comes on and the green light under 2WD started blinking at me. Went back and showed the guy at the dealer....he said he didn't know what to do and come back next week. He claimed they would have a tranny specialist in next week and he could fix it for sure. I told the guy no way and I called another dealer where my buddy works as a service manager. He told me to bring the truck down...its about a thirty minute drive.
definitely wishing i had 4wd on the floor and not a **** on the dash.....I didn't want it originally but the truck had everything else i wanted.
