Front driveshaft replacement

I did a search but wasn't finding what I need. If its there I'll apologize now for the re post.

A while back I had a vibration, researched here and checked the support joint on my rear drive shaft. It seemed like the bearing rubber was toast (240K+ miles). So I went and got a 1 piece DS, after weighing out the options and prices and not totally trusting shops near me. Installed the 1pc and the vibration was still there.

went back under and found the front DS was blown up. I don't know how I missed it but the rear U joint was hammered. Then removing it I had to drill out a bolt on the front. I now need a replacement. But I'm not sure if I'm looking up the right pieces.

Looking for help. Here are the #s off the only sticker on it, can someone tell me what the replacement is? After splurging for the 1 PC rear I'm just looking for a stock reman replacement for the front. Truck is totally stock

This is what I am looking to get to replace mine. Still has the stock unit presently. All of my joints look good at the moment but I am nervous it is just getting old. Have read a few stories from others having this bind up and break transfer case.

Yeah I looked at that one too, just dont' have 600 to shell out after the 800 driveshaft. Luckily my front shaft took all the abuse and destroyed itself. xfer and front diff are fine. I dont' off road a ton so I think a rebuilt or a stock piece would do..... just need to pay better attention t it I guess.

quad 4x4 has replacement parts for the smaller stock sizes also. Maybe you can buy the carden joint and u-joints and change them yourself? The joints aren't hard to do and am sure if you spoke to someone at the site they would help you get the right parts.

Would need to replace that whole cardan assembly. I see they have a weld on option. And the other end needs replaced as well. Just those parts have it in the mid 300 range. Without even talking to someone to do the welding that 550 complete one isn't looking as bad.

I have a clunking sound that is coming from under the drivers side on my 06 ram and I narrowed it down to the front drive shaft i think. I priced a replacement shaft on partsgeek for If i rememebr it was about $250.

Diesbull..
The replacement one that is close to $600 also is much larger/stronger joints than the stock one. 1350 instead of 1310 u-joints I seem to remember. I am saving and will be buying the upgraded shaft soon.

I will be checking the partsgeek out to see what they offer for parts.. Thanks

^ took it out? Yeah that's how I fixed mine too. Found a reman one with the 1350 upgrade for a little under 300. My biggest concern was getting the stock part # and making sure I was in the right ball park. Did that only to find it was superseded a few times.

Hvytrkmech, Tell us more about what you have there.I see only one joint at the transfer case end of the shaft. Is this a viable option for a stock truck? Or is this for modified suspensions? If it is a viable option for a stock truck, what are the pros and cons to it? And lastly where can this shaft be purchased? I personally found it strange ,the amount of moving parts in the stock front drive shaft. However, I thought greater minds then mine came up with this design. It seems that its set up for failure with all them parts.

That one is for an auto. My fault I thought I had listed in my sig what I had, but it seems to be gone now. Anyway looking there I don't see the NV5600 in the option list, just the 4500. Not sure if they are use the same part or not. Guessing with how other parts have been they aren't.

They list two part numbers for manual trans trucks. One should fit your truck:

Second Saturday of each month here is employee pricing. Something they don't advertise.
AAA card gains you a slight discount too.

Tom Woods @ www.4xshaft.com builds a HD unit also.

Another reason to get a freespin conversion.

I had that made at my local Spicer drive line shop. Cost me $100.00 out the door. take into consideration that I do lots of business with this shop. On another note my transfer case needs an overhaul, parts are on the passenger floor of my truck. I'll get to it next week. It made a huge difference with the new shaft.
