Front Axle Seals
Well it turns out my front axle seals are leaking bad,i thought it was my hub bearing but looking closer it is the axle seal.i am planning on replacing ball joints[xrf] and ujoints next week so taking out the axles was part of the plan anyway.NOW can i get away with marking the position of the ring gear to pinion gear and the end caps for re-installation WITHOUT setting gear lash??this is all new to me and i have no knowledge of this process.i don't want to replace ball joints and u joints then take it to a shop for them to tear all my build up apart again!!!
Front axle seals and ball joint replacements
Well guys my buddy and i spent the whole day in the shop replacing front ball joints [xrf] ,universal joints and both axle seals. What a day.the axle seals were a pain in the @#$$.to drive out,and they are a seal in a seal with the outer portion some type of tapered black nylon, you end up destroying them driving them out.it turns out they are dealer only at $35.00 each, they did go in much easier.we marked and mic'd the carrier caps and adjusters.i ended up busting my brothers hydraulic press trying to drive out the seized "U" joints what a pain, ended up using a cutoff wheel to get them out.The truck rides excellent tight and smooth with no driveline clunks or shudders,my only PROBLEM IS BOTH MY BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS LIGHT ARE ON NOW!!we disconnected the abs harness and we had to compress the caliper a bit to get the brakes back together.any ideas as to why both these lights are on??????
