Fleetguard questions
Will the LF3937 work on my 05? It's discontinued, the replacement is 3970 and many place say will work on Cummins 5.9 ISB but places like Genos or Schieds don't sell them. What gives????

I have been also but can get these other filters which the seller is claiming will work on our 5.9's.... for much less money. Don't get me wrong, I won't use an inferior product on my truck. This is a Fleetguard Stratapore but I'm getting conflicting reports as to if it will work.

There's this:
http://www.cumminsfiltration.com/pdf...be_filters.pdf
It doesn't even have a reference to LF3937 anywhere in the document, though. :/

So you're saying the LF3937 which is now the LF3970 is the same as the LF16035 minus the flutes on the bottom???
darn this is getting confusing...

Except when I bought my 05' 3894 is what was listed and still is at the cummins shop here. I've been using 3894 since truck was new and it is Stratapore media or so it says right on the filter.

Actually 16035 was also available when my truck was new, but the cummins dealer told me only difference was flutes and $2.00 increase. I also read this several places including here.
To be honest i've never heard of the 3937 or 3972 until now. All the parts houses here carry 3894 or 16035 for 3rd Gen cummins, in the Stratapore media anyway.

And now Geno's lists the 3894 as for 2nd gen. CTD's. When I bought my truck I read on Fleetguard site (in 05') that the 3894 was the stouter upgrade for the higher pressure 3rd gen. engines, was told the same by the Cummins dealer.
Heck i don't know anymore, one of the reasons I'm about to ditch Fleetguard for Baldwin or the top line Wix. Baldwin and Wix don't change their friggin' numbers every other week.
One point however, the 3894 is the same demensions as the 16035 (except for the flutes) has the same 1/16 threads and is a Stratapore, so whats really the difference? I think there is very little difference just alot of different numbers on nearly identical filters. There is only so much you can do to an oil filter.
