Flash crashed ECM

Had the ecm flashed because of long start problem. When the dealer flashed it it fried the key and the ecm. It took them 3 tries to get the ecm to flash. The tech said he had never seen this before. But look like the ECM was bad causing the starting problem all along.

The dealer is telling me that I have to buy a replacement key, because I wanted the flash done. But the ecm is covered under warrenty. The way I see it is that the ecm caused the key to fry and warrenty should cover it also.

Has anyone else had this problem.

The key was working when you brought it in, now it doesn't? Sorry charlie, they should pay.

Yep, key was working. It would take 3or 4 tried sometimes to get it to start. That is why I took it to get the long start flash. I will be fighting about the key Monday afternoon when it fixed about the cost of the key.

Typical dealer bs!
Like a couple weeks ago, my Ferd F150 company truck blew up one of the cat convertors. Under warranty. Steeler said it fried the 4 spark plugs on that bank due to the heat buildup, along with melting some other stuff that was close to the manifold. $165 later I got 4 new sparkplugs. Called to complain that it should be under warranty and the guy actually told me he should have charged me more, said he forgot to bill the other $60 for tha plugs, $165 was labor only.
To top it off, had grease on the seat, fuse blown on my transfer tank wiring, fuse box cover left under the front seat, new exhaust leak and a miscellaneous piece of vacuum hose sitting on the battery.
While it was in there, I asked them to fix the drivers door lock linkage, 2nd time it's popped off unlocking the door with a coat hanger. Took me about 30min in the driveway to fix it the first time. They got me for $150, said they fixed it then the door came open on the mech during a test drive, so they had to go back in and replace some broken "parts."
Also the struts and springs are sacked out from carrying 1000lbs in the box, with helper springs (on a truck thats rated for 3000lb payload in the TV commercials! Ha!). Asked them to fix that. They could find nothing wrong. Go figure from these geniuses. It rides like an old Buick for cripe sakes! But wait....they "fixed" it by balancing and rotating the tires for $125, even though I can get it done for free at BigO. Now the tires are in the wrong position rotation wise for treadwear and direction and they vibrate like heck at 85mph. WOW, they really "fixed" it.
Oh well, that's what my company gets for buying Ferds in the first place!
Reinforces why I make the time to work on my own vehicles. ALot less headaches!

When reflashing a Dodge/Cummins PCM the antitheft key code will be wiped out. The technican needed to record the code and then reinstall it after the reflash. However, Dodge does have a means of recovering the code via their secure technical customer/vehicle site. I have never had to replace the key/ign switch after reflash but I have had to re-install the key code a few times before it was recognized.
