I went to the dealer to have my oil changed at 3000k. They told me to leave it alone until 5000 or follow the om and go to 7500.
To make myself fell better, I went home and changed it myself at 3020k.
I do 99% city driving very rarely getting the temps above 150 so I felt it would be wise to dump it at 3000k.

I changed mine at 4080, little later than I had originally wanted to, yet well within the manufactures specs.

I changed mine at 1200. For what it cost I'd rather change it early. You only do the first oil change once.

What filters are you guys running?

The only thing I have readily available near me thats open today is a O'Reillys Auto parts. They carry the WIX filters.

What do you guys think about running the wix filters--I did on my 03 the life of it all the way up to 86,000 miles before it was traded on the 06.

Also could anyone share some part numbers to the fleetguard filter numbers,

thanks

Justin

I swapped to full synthetic 5w40 @ 1500 miles! I don't care what the Mfg says I'm taking care of my vehicle!

First change at 1k, the next one at 3K, the last one at 6K. I'm due again at 12, as far as I'm concerned with the first fuel filter change.

1500k swap to synthetic? No offense Rick, I don't know about that one. Can the rings fully seat in in that amount of time?

runamuck, you definately are not taking care of your vehicle by switching to synthetics so early. have you ever seen the cylinder walls on a motor that was run on synthetic since new?? these diesels can take a while to break in and rings to fully seat, this is why they recommend 20k before swithcing to synthetics. as for the first oil change being done early, its probably not a bad idea. i did mine at 3k and did find a small amount of meatal shavings in the oil. the reason i waited until 3k was because nobody (even different dealerships) seems to know if infact these motors have factory breakin oil in them.

Did my first change at 5K. Will go to syn oil at 10K. Cummins says you can go to syn between 5K-20K depending on how you used the truck. While you are changing the engine oil, you might want to consider your diffs. I'm changing mine at 10K with new syn. Some guys are saying that the factory oil that comes out looks pretty thin. Just a thought.

Cummins gives us a great oil change schedule why not use it. They know more about when to change oil than on their engine than we do. I use every mile they will give me.
