Don't know. Guess it's a question for Fleetguard.
My guess is because of the pathetic lift pump we have and a very short service interval for the filter.

Well, Bosch makes the fuel system, Cummins builds the engine, Fleetguard makes the filters and DC puts in the truck.
All DC does is warranty it and I'll bet they know nothing......

Told yesterday a drop in is too small in a 2 micron to get enough fuel through it without a lot more fuel psi.Called BOSCH and have been given phone number after phone number.Have one to R&D to call this A.M. trying to find out the recomended micron rating on HPCR systems used in boat and generator applications etc.

I would like to put an inline 2 micron system on my truck, but worry about the extra load on the lift pump, and if it will cause premature failure to it, and them DC telling me it's out of warranty, because it's definately somethiing they will see. I might do a drop in 7micron, but wonder if that will load the pump too much for what it was designed for, therefore shorten it's life, so I think I'll just say screw it, and let them replace injectors until it's out of warranty.I think it depends on where you end up buying your fuel as to how much trouble you'll see while you own your truck.I'm no expert, but I don't see how a piece of 10 micron anything can plug up a nozzle
just like that, because the passages have to be large enough for major flow when your stepping on it.I could see you having as problem if you get a real bad tank of fuel with crud or water mixed up together. I don't know if Bosch is covering up a bad design or something too, because I worked for Bosch years ago, and wouldn't put anything passed them because they always had a hard time keeping up with the american market.

I don't think it's about a 10 micron piece of gunk plugging anything, it's the long term wear (abrasion) of these particles on the injectors.

I had a nice conversaion with the owner of Glacier diesel yesterday.Super fellow. If you call him because of this thread I asked about BIGFOOT.He got a hoot from that one.The reason you can't use a 2 micron drop in is its too small unless it had a decent high psi pump to push it.The BIGGER the filter the easier it allows liguid to flow through it.Using a Glacier fuel filter kit and using stock lift/pusher pump eaither in tank or engine mount they recomend the big line kit to get more fuel to the filter media. If using a Walbro pump the standard kit works fine.I understand fully where he was coming from.He commented on a water etching/cuttting rig using high psi water its filtered smaller then 1 miron or it will ruin nozzels at faster rate with the high psi going through it.Called Bosch R&D a little while ago.Got a voice mail that he/they were out of pocket and leave a message.I did.

I had basically the same conversation with Richard at Glacier.. end result is I ordered the Big Line Kit as I am running the 7u drop-in filters. I will eventually add the 2u remote filter kit and Walbro pump kit.. then I will think about ( looking around for DCX spies ) *Bombing*...

Richard at Glacier told me the same. I'm going with the Walbro pump and the 2 micron filter so I don't have to worry about it anymore.

if the 2 micron is too small to flow properly without additional pressure, why not plumb 2 in parallel? they will share the flow, and effectively flow double what a single will do.

I meant the FACTORY size filter in the factory spot. I had E/MAILED BOSCH yesterday about micron of THEIR filters when HPCR used in OTHER applications.Got a reply that MICRON rating is the soil PROPRIETARY of BOSCH and will NOT reveil.HUMMM.Won't revel the MICRON rating for a filter used on THEIR equipment.I guess your suppose to TRUST BOSCH that if a FUEL FILTER bought from them for ANYTHING using a HPCR its ok! We'll see what answer I get on the phone.
