rockhound: I don't believe your tranny is working properly. I tow up and down fancy gap in Va. and Black mountain in NC.,and monteagle in Tn.,all decent hills, when I start down hill in OD and the load starts pushing the engine rpm's higher a firm stab on the brakes will downshift the tranny to third and it will hold third until you hit the fuel pedal again, however the tranny is not smart enought to know wheteher you hit the fuel pedal by accident or on purpose,as you alluded to in your earlier post,if you hit it will shift back into over-drive.

i am not 100% sure but doesn't it say in the owners manual about if you are pulling over a certain weight that you should be using sufficient trailer brakes. Another thing that must be considered is the max trailer weight that you see in the commercials, is a 3500 SRW 2WD, which not very many people own. I think that those are two arguements that DC would probably use against you.

my trailer brakes are more than sufficient. i shouldn't be relying on trailer brakes to slow down a load

hot brakes mean dead drivers. if you don't thnk so just check out how often the runaway ramps are used on Vail pass, nearly everyday. 9 miles of 7% plus grades

i have my 2005 brochure in my hand and the 05, ram 3500, 4x4 with the 5.9 l diesel I-6 has a max trailer weight of 15950 lbs. my rig weighs in at about 11,700 lbs
as i stated about 25% belowthe rating of the rig.

Hamma,

i think you may be right about my tranny. i haven't found a service department yet that will admit to there being a problem. they all say its is working to factory specs
