FASS pump or Not?
FASS pump or Not?
i just recently purchased an 03 3500. I have had a couple of issues which point me towards the direction of the lift pump, so I am seriously considering a FASS pump. The way I read it you keep the factory lift pump in place and when you put the FASS pump on the lift pump just doesn't have to work that well. Is this true? I also heard that you can't find a factory lift pump. What would I do if that went completely out. Thanks
Can answer the second part of your question.....the Original Lift pump is not made anymore......however.....if you get on Ebay there is a company that sales a stock lift pump for about 325.00 if I remember. Dont know where they get them if there not being made anymore or how many they have for sale...I still have the stock one on my truck and Im thinking about getting a back up of some kind.

It makes no sense to leave the stock pump in place and feed it with another pump. It is not "working" less, it is still getting the same number of hours on it. I don't think you can show that pumping through the stock pump will make it last longer. When it does go out it blocks the line and the new pump can't get the fuel through it.
Replace the stock pump and be done with the problems.
The FASS is a good choice, but so is the Walbro. The Walbro is very quiet and you can get replacement pumps in a lot of places if needed.
Get the Walbro, remove the stock pump.

No, the aftermarket pump replaces the stock lift pump. They just mount in a different place so you remove the stock one and put a fitting in it's place.

My stock pump just went out at 72k leaving me stranded on the highway. Wish I did the FASS pump sooner. It is a little noisy, but you get used to it. I would definetly do something soon, either the Walbro or the FASS.
i have had the fass 95gpm for a year now- it is loud-but i do not care. i am not willing to have my truck down for a week or so, to send it in to have it "fixed" to make it quieter. no problems with it at all.
Im also thinking of swaping out my stock lift pump since it already has 105k on it. Ill probably go with the walbro but does any one have any pics of the stock lift pump takin out and the fittings used to bypass it?

I like the Walbro pump because the setup is so simple and if the pump should ever fail you could just pick up any elect pump at any auto parts store, and put it in in a few minutes to get home. Or just carry a spare Walbro pump if you are worried about it. No proprietary parts. And quiet.
