Updates? The only comfort I have is it seems all the 06's and 07's have this problem.

My '05 has this same mysterious knock/tap, I have done all the same things as you have and all to no avail. I just replaced the injector tips and installed head studs and was worried I did something wrong but several people on several forums have the same thing happening. I did read something about the CP3 being out of tune with the rest of the engine. Some guys adjusted it and it worked for them and some it didnt work.

Well, they found metal in the motor :

There was metal laying ontop of the #6 piston

They traced around and found some casting material from the mounting area of the CFM+ intake had broke loose and went into the motor

The #6 piston is damaged, and will need replacing

They are crunching some numbers right now and will call back with a price, for the piston, labor, head, etc

They did suggest some ARP head studs, and I think I am going to have some installed

Does anyone where where I can get a new or reman head at?......just curious about price difference, compared to what they are going to charge

Mine just started this new ticking/knocking noise this past friday. It still runs fine and everything. I filled up with gas and later that day noticed the new noise.

Thankfully, all the metal stayed ontop of the piston

The cylinder wall look very, very good, with no signs of scaring or wear

So the CFM did not cause the damgae? How did the CFM break/crack?

Not sure the CFM actually caused the problem, but the casting area that broke off was one of the four tapped hole areas on the head, that the intake elbow gets bolted onto......

Sounds like the bolts were over-torqued mounting the CFM.

After the truck being down for three weeks, I finally got it back with $4,500 worth of new parts/labor:

#6 Piston, piston pin, connecting rod, rod bearing, cylinder ring set, complete new head, and about 20 various gaskets, flanges, orings, seals and misc parts

anyways!....the truck is doing great

While the head was off, I had ARP (247-4202) head studs installed
