factory limited slip or open diff?

No,this a gear based unit similar to the Torsen type 2 or the Detroit Truetrac.

IMHO, it would be a great unit if electronic traction control was part of the package. Unfortunately it is better suited for the pavement than offroad.

there are 6 pinion gears in the rear diff on the lsd we have.. when loaded, they drive out against the brake shoes in the diff, and transfers torque to other side..
drawing from service manual in my members gallery..
from the look of the cut on the side gears, the lsd action will only work in one way [fwd]
