A friend has a F450 with a 5.9 with only 60k onthe clock.I dont no if it is a 05 or 06 the warenty is only 2 years and it broke on the 26th month and they say SOL what a bummer. He said it is a variable vane wast gate control module and they want like 2200 for the part. Any help on wear to get it cheaper?

 

Don't think it has a 5.9 unless it was converted. Most likely it is a 6.0 (Navistar), especially since you mention the VVT turbo. No VVT turbos on the 5.9.

 

As long as he does not have any mods on that engine, the turbo and all related hardware are covered under the 100k mile engine warranty, unlike Dodge he will have to pay a $100.00 deductible. Have your buddy look into it. The 6.0 is world famous for turbo problems.

 

The 450 is a tow truck and only came with a 2 year warenty. I am going to find out more info on it right now.

 

Being a commercial truck does not affect the warranty it is still 3/36 basic and 100k on the motor. There is a tow co. in my area that is on his second engine in a F-550, its an 06, done under warranty.

 

Well I talked to him and its a 05 F650 5.9 and ist a vgt wast gate assembly. The warenty he has is 2 year 200,000 miles. I dont no whats up with that

OK,if its a F-650 than it can have a cummins(5.9L) but since its a 2005 it MUST have a 5.9L with a fixed turbo. The VGT turbos were indroduced after 2007.5

 

The wastegate is electronically controlled, get the engine # off the data plate, and call your local Cummins dealer for a price.

 

He has all ready called them may be he needs to call a diffrent cummins dealer. Dont you think 2200 is lot of bread for the wast gate?

 

Going by what you are telling me, he is getting raped big time, however, an over the internet diagnosis is very difficult at best. Without more intimate details on actual drivability concerns it will be nearly impossible to diagnose. More details would be helpful.

 

Yes I do uderstand it hard if you cant see the rig and yes it does sounds like he is getting the hosed

 

F650 is a commercial truck, take it to a cummins dealer, I think you could buy 2 turbos for that price.
