Exhaust tip

My exhaust is putting black soot all over my rear fender, so Im going to get a tip. Will a straight tip cure mose of this problem if it sticks out far enough or should I get a turn down and be done with. I don't really like the looks of a turn down but will live with it, if it fixes the problem. Also I was looking at the MBRP tips in the DTR store, what is the difference between single and dual wall?

flat tip= most soot on fender, angle tip= less, turn down= least soot. double wall tips means just that, kinda like a tip inside a tip- you'll be less likely to get heat related discoloration with a double wall tip.

Mopar makes a nice angled tip. I put one on my 03, and it's still looking very good. I put the Onki angled tip on my 05. It was less $, and also looks good, but seems to get more surface rust during the winter. It's easy to clean off, but for the extra $, I'd rather not have to. My brother has the tip by magnaflo, but i personally don't like the lack of angle at the end. (Just my $.02.)

I have one of the MBRP 5 in. angled dual wall tips on my dually and it keeps the soot off the body. I was going to go with a turn down but I have a dirt driveway and that would stur up the dust even more.

I run the Mopar tip, had it since 03 with no problems no rust and yes it took care of the soot on the fender and bumper. I extended it a couple inches past the end of the factory exhaust.

I put a Silverline turn down tip on mine. See at genos. I had to cut the angle off the end of the factory tail pipe to get it fit all the way on. Looks good and seems to function as well.

I had same problem. Bought a 5" x 18" stainless rolled edge angled tip from summit racing - about $40. Welded it on so it sticks out about 1-1/4" further and now the problem is gone.
Part number is SUM-691123. I've seen tips smaller than this for 2-3 the $ and for what? A brand name.

I just ordered a 4" to 5" X 12" tip.

Do you cut the factory tip back some and then mount it or do you just leave the factory tip in place and just slide the new tip over it?

I put on a $40 Silverline. It does get cruddy, and would have been worth it to get a better quality dual wall. I just slid it over the stock pipe without cutting it, and used a band clamp. You can see it if you look in there, but after a little soot builds up inside, it is not really noticable.

Can you expand on cruddy? The exterior?

I cut off about 12-14 inches and put 4 short welds to hold it. You could leave the entire pipe but I didn't want it to show.

I did the same but with no access to welder tightened the bolt that's on the tip and put a rivet on too for insurance. My tip doesn't stick out the side it points down and is a few inches inside the fender. No smoke on rear fender and quieter too since the noise is directed down. Noise is no good when you tow.

Yes, it pickes up all the road grime. I have had it on for 3 years, the first two it polished up rather easy. Now on the third year it is a pain to get clean. I think this is due to the quality; I can't complain how it is holding up, I only spent $40. Next time I will spend more for the nice double wall stainless.
