Exhaust and Air Intake Questions

I have a 2004.5 which i purchased used with 80,000 miles on it. the truck has the muffler delete pipe on it and i was curious if anyone could tell me about how much louder the in cab noise would be if i got rid of the cat on it. i drive about 8 hours everytime i go home from school and that is the only reason i havent already done it. Also, do you need to buy the cat delete piece i see online or can i just get a piece big enough to fit once the cat is cut out?

The other question i had was about the intake. The previous owner put a K&N intake on it and i have heard bad things about these especially with the turbo. Is this true? and is there a different filter you can put on the end of the intake?
Thanks
Alex

If the kitty was to run away, yes the truck would be louder for sure. Alot of people get the "drone" sound or a raspy tone when they straight pipe their exhaust. The cat delete pipe is just a pipe that comes already bent to fit in place of the cat in order for an easier install. You can always go the cheaper route & get a piece of 4" pipe or flex pipe & use that instead. However the flip side to that is you may need to fabricate some hangers or even use some exhaust adapters in order to make the connection.

Intake.....Most people shy away from K & N because of dirt getting through the filter to the turbo. Some say if oiled properly, then they have good results with K & N but other disagree.

I personally would purchase an aftermarket dry filter (Amsoil or AEM) & attach it to the torque tube of the K & N. Much better filtration & easier cleaning....

The dry filters are good I have heard but I am a big fan of the oiled foam filters myself. I figure 10,000 Bastow to Vegas dirt bike riders can't be wrong. There are a couple of vendors; UNI & Truflow that I have heard about that should make a filter that will replace the K&N filter.
