Engine Weight???

I know this is real random, but does anyone know what a 325hp cummins weighs and/or have a general spec sheet?

Not sure about the total weight, but the crank alone weighs as much as the entire 360 gas engine put in the 2500 in 2000. I believe the weight is around 1000 lbs.

I know it's going to be around 1000, but for number crunching reasons I need it to be accurate. I have searched here and the cummins website for hours with no luck.

Yeah, I cannot find any literature on the motor other than 325hp@2900 rpm and 610 lb-ft@1600 rpm.

I have been trying to find out what Cummins weighs opposed to the Ford and Chevy V8 diesels. I have a bet here at work with a Ford and Chevy diesel owners that my Cummins weighs more than either one of their V8's do. Now I know what mines weighs from this post but I have to find out what each of the V8 motors weighs in at. Anyone know off hand?

I found this on International's web site for the VT 365 which I think is the same as the 6.0.

Engine Type Diesel 4-Cycle
Configuration V8
Displacement 365 cu in (6.0 liters)
Bore and Stroke 3.74 x 4.134 in (95 x 105 mm)
Compression Ratio 18:0:1
Aspiration EVRT™ Turbocharged
Combustion System Direct Injection
Cooling System Capacity (engine only) 10.8 qt (10.2 liters)
Lubricating System Capacity 19 qt (18 liters)
Total Engine Weight 1,062 lb (482 kg)

I can't seem to find any weight figures for the Duramax.

My 1st gen was 884 lbs. according to the owners manual. Don't know how much more the 24 valve head weighs.

the number i've seen (don't remember where) for the 24V is 1150 lbs, and the nv5600 is 400 or 450 lbs, so the combo weighs as much as a complete subcompact automobile!

This article says "less than 1200 lbs". Which probably means 1195.

I would think the Cummins ISB 325 is heavier than the Duramax and Powerstroke V8's. I remember the inline 6's in Ford trucks in the 80's and 90's used to be as heavy or heavier than the optional small block V8's.

This may be a little help

This came as a e-mail answer to someone asking about the Cummins engine.
I copied the pertinent part and pasted below. You will notice it is a somewhat
old correspondence as the oil spec is not up to date. But I would 'assume' the
engine weight to be correct.
Since the sender's email is listed below, one could always get the current specs
in case there was a difference.
Larry
---------------------------------

Details on the Cummins ISB engine:
Displacement 359 cu. in. (5.9 liters)
Length 40.03 in
Width 30.32 in
Height 31.72 in
Bore 102mm (4.02 c.i.)
Stroke 120mm (4.72 c.i.)
Compression ratio 16.5:1
Dry weight 437kg (962 lb)
Oil Capacity 14.2 liters (15 US quarts)
Fuel filter Top load cartridge - Fleetguard FS 1261
Spin on filter - FS 19519
Oil filter - Fleetguard - LF3729
Oil Drain Interval - 15,000 miles or one year (whichever comes first)
Recommended oils - 15w40 API CE/SG
Valve adjustment - 150,000 miles

The B-50 expected 'life to overhaul' time for the ISB engine is longer than the previous mechanical B series engines. Cummins expects the B50 life of the electronic 24-valve ISB engine to be in the 400,000 mile range or higher.
