Engine tick

I have about 13K miles on my truck now. I have been noticing a slight engine tick that sounds like it would be a lifter. It increases with engine RPM and is most noticeable on decel. If the truck isn't fully warmed up, then I notice it even more. If I am driving next to a bulding or a curb then you can really hear it.

I don't really want to take it to the dealership if it is normal. I just started noticing the noise. I changed my oil at 500 miles, then at 4000, then again at 7500, then at 11,500. Use Rotella and Wix filters.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Mine does the same exact thing. Took it in and they think #1 injector is bad but Brian at Star wont let them do anything abought it. He basicly said it still runs and no noticable loss of power so to bad. I say horse poopy. It is bad, they should replace it. I have put a few thousand miles on it sence then and it is significantly worse. All my freinds that used to give me crap abought driving a loud diesel when I had my 98 thought this truck was great when I got it. They now ask me what is wrong with it every time they hear it run. I am getting sick of hearing it when going down the road. I am leary of getting the new reflash in fear that it may just cover up a bad injector. I want the injector replaced and then we will see abought the reflash.

Ah yes the infamous tic that does not exist.

I have the same tic (or do I) BUT this is normal or so I have been told. I used a stethoscope and pinned it down to #1 cylinder and could hear the tic changing with RPM. I had the Sept 27 flash done and tic noise reduced and engine runs smoother and quieter. So, I believe the flash helped overall engine performance but also helped mask the problem with #1 injector and will result in taking longer to get it replaced.

I noticed a ticking noise in my '04 600 (7K miles) also. Took it to the dealer. They replaced the #2 injector, started it up, noticed it still ran a little rough, then discovered the #6 injector was borderline bad. They replaced that one too.

I don't think it's good to drive with a bad injector. Better get it checked out soon.

The dealer said this wasn't common and was the result of just defective parts, not anything I did. I'm a little concerned with 2 bad injectors at 7K. Hope this is it.

All four of my Dodge Cummins have had a tic to them. Even with the loud '95, '98 and '01.5, they always sounded like one injector wasn't exactly right. Now my '03 does it with 41,080 miles on it tonight. I've decided to ignore it. It runs great, doesn't smoke or miss. I'm afraid of them working on it and creating more problems than a tic.
