Engine Stumbled Hard This Morning

Went to start it as usual, and it acted like it was running on 3 cylinders, then all 6 after a few seconds.

How cold was it?

Seems I recall hearing/reading that in the extreme cold they will sound that way, because they are running that way IIRC.

I will see if my google foo will work.

On Edit: Found a post on the cumminsforum where a guy said that at -25 his made a lot of noise and smoked.
And this from dodgeram.org;
The Cummins B will reliably start at temperatures to -20 degrees F without the block heater, but the engine is much happier if the block heater is used. It may take several manifold heat/start cycles before the engine fires and continues to run. Expect a large smoke cloud, engine and accessory whine, knocking, and vibration until things warm.
