Engine starting length of time

Have been noticing longer than usual starting times. In the morning when the engine is cold truck will fire right up. Then say I run it for a little shut it down and try to start again, it will struggle and finally start up about 8-10 seconds later. Do you guys have an idea what could be causing this?

I have done the key code at no codes so. Also had the fuel pressure checked and it read 8 PSI at idle.

Thanks.

Check your fuel filter and replace if you haven't. I get that sometimes if I didn't get the truck up to operating temp. It seem to me that the cylinders were still a little wet due to not being up to operating temp and no grid heater.

What would be considered operating temp? The dash guage says 190-200 degrees.

I just changed the about 4 weeks ago. I could change it again and see if that helps. I also added about 9 oz. of Diesel Kleen to it at the last fill up.

I am hoping the fuel pump is starting to get weak. IT is the stock fuel pump. Good reason to get a FASS. Wifey has already said go ahead but I also want guages for my truck. So I don't know which way to go. Guages or FASS?

Other than the starting issue, it runs awesome. I have no complaints (knock on wood .

I just pray it is not the injectors. I don't know if I could afford to rebuild or buy new ones.

Took the truck to the dealer Thursday. They stated that the rail pressure was fine, CP3 looked good but did state that the connector that is on the front of the FWS was bad. Don't know what that connector is, believe they said it was the heater connection. Didn't say anything about the the lift pump pressure. Asked if they did a injector test, they stated that they didn't know how.

Your first post describes exactly what I encountered about two years ago. Started fine when cold with no running issues. However, when the engine was heat soaked, I would start to wonder if it would start. Changing the fuel filter eliminated the issue for about three to five hundred miles. Changed the stock fuel pump, no change. The dealer installed an in-tank fuel pump along with six new injectors. I understand it is easier for a pump to push fuel, rather than to pull. The slow to start issue was solved after the in-tank fuel pump and new injectors. The dealership believed I had some weak injectors, the fuel pump was replaced to eliminate the possibility. Hope this helps?

I finally got her fixed I think. Installed a FASS 95 and six new injectors. From what I have been told the injectors solenoid goes bad sitting in the hot oil bath and will not operate correctly. The tips looked good but the solenoid was going bad and not letting fuel into the cylinder to fire.

Thanks for all the info guys.
